The Photomedics BlueLight was created in part based on the Photomedics’ wellness platform, researched and developed at The Forsyth Institute, an affiliate of Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Nikos Soukos CEO, Founder, introduced at the Harvard-affiliated Forsyth Institute, the "Achilles Heel” of key potentially-pathogenic bacteria (black-pigmented bacteria) in dental plaque (2002) known as porphyrins – organic compounds produced and accumulated within pathogenic bacteria that are highly sensitive to blue light.
Dr. Soukos is an accomplished translational medical scientist and academic teacher and a pioneering leader in the field of Photomedicine and Dentistry. He has worked for ten years as a research scientist in Photomedicine at the Eastman Dental Institute, London and at the Wellman Center for Photomedicine of the Harvard-affiliated Massachusetts General Hospital. Since 2015, Dr. Soukos has been a Teaching Professor in the Department of Physics & Biology at Northeastern University, Boston.
